Stockport Software Training Course Outlines
When you give up 2 or 3 or 4 days of valuable time to learn about a subject which may be a key to both your companu's success as an employer and your career development as an employee or consultant, you want to be confident that the person who is teaching you knows something that you don't.
As experienced software trainers with years of experience delivering technical material to classes of students, at Bindon.net we have a real insight into what allows people to quickly get a handle on new technologies and processes.
Here are some of the principles we apply in delivering software training to both users and developers:
Show don't tell: There is nothing to say about this (which is the point).
Examples, examples, examples: Once you've seen 20 examples of something, it doesn't need a lot of explanation.
Pathways to understanding: Some things are easier to understand, once other things have been understood. If you design your pathways through a subject well enough, learning becomes effortless.
The pespective of the WHOLE: Seeing the map of the whole of a subject allows everything to be put in its proper place.
...And the perspective of the PART: Close up detail on the intricacies of specific aspects saves you time finding out what a tutor can simply tell you.
Questions and Answers: The free flow of conversation around a topic of interest between someone who knows about it, and someone who wants to know allows students to very quickly become as knowledgeable as someone who has spent their whole lives studying, thinking, and distinguishing the critical distinctions in that area.
The Crux of the Matter: There are very often precise little "keys" to understanding, the crux of the matter, which is the difference between being able to scale the heights of a new technology, or it being something you'll get around to someday. At Bindon.net we target the cruxes of understanding. Our courses are designed to lead you straight to the thorny issues, and lead you spectacularly to their resolution.
Don't hold anything back: At Bindon.net we believe in abundance. We aren't hiding anything up our sleves that you'll need to come back for. We give you direct access to the sources we've used in the development of the course. This leaves you free to continue the research for yourself or hire us again if you think we're worth it. This way we provide excelent value for money - we keep "giving away our crown jewels". But as we scale the heights, we discover there are always new heights to be scaled.
Bindon.net provides software and conceptual education in the following areas:
This course focuses on the technologies behind the dot-net framework and platform. The background and architectures. This understanding will allow you to make the best choices, and programming decisions, irrespective of which dot-net language you are using.
The latest greatest programming language from Microsoft.
Like C# only different. Vb has a great historical tradition as the easiest programming language there is for building Microsoft Windows applications. Now it has been upgraded for the dot-net framework and its associated technologies, it is controversially as powerful as C#, while being cheaper to build with and maintain.
Web-aps the Microsoft way.
Databases the Microsoft way!
Word processing and spreadsheets the Microsoft way. But what an amazing macro language they have!
As yet this is just about the only technology that has taken any ground in make Web applications more user friendly, and web sites and advertisments visually appealing. There are lots of challengers in the pipe-line, but for now you might as well get with the program!
The revolutionary new architectural design tool from the mother of all architectural design tool software companies who sell AutoCad. This product is being used to design and project manage the build of the new world trade centre. And what an amazing tool it is too. It will help you design and visualise anything from an extension on the side of your house to a suspension bridge.
One of the 3 or 4 most popular tools for designing 3D visualisations, along with 3DSMax. This one is really popular with the pros, and was used on a load of blockbuster CGI movies from the George Lucas school of movie making.
You know them and you love them and you hate them.
MS Word, MS Excel, MS Powerpoint, MS Outlook, MS Project
We can help you stay friends for longer...
and longer...
The desktop database from Microsoft. Little brother to SQL Server.
For those of you out there with old VB apps (you know who you are) ... we can help.
A small revolution in its own day, VBA was one of the most amazing empowerments to end users that any software company has ever made. It puts programming power into the hands of end-users. Run for the hills, said the trad programmers - but the end users loved it.
Particularly the end users of Excel, the Office application that got VBA built in to it first.
Next came Word, and not all those Wordy-folks (who were used to WordBasic) liked it. But that was a long time ago. I wonder how many even remember.
Training agencies typically put at least 100% on top of whatever they are paying their course leaders, so where as they would typically pay a course leader £300-£400 per day for an average IT course, they would typically charge a customer £600-£800 per day. In many cases it can be even more, as they tend to charge additions per delegate, so for a course with 12 delegates a surcharge of £50 per delegate per day over 6 delegates is often charged.
You can see that in a training contract of (lets say) 100 employees doing one 3day course each with 6 delegates in each course, a saving of around £20,000 can be made by hiring the course leader directly.
Mostly the only thing that the training company is doing for this extra money is managing its own administration. In other words when you hire a training agency, you are mostly paying double the money you need to, and getting no extra benefit.
Of course this saving is only achievable if you happen to know a really good I.T. trainer, or a number of really good I.T. trainers... ;-)
Now I expect you don't think your "training company" is a training agency, right? ... Wrong. Most training companies are training agencies. To keep full time staff who have in depth knowledge of specific subjects just ready to train a course that comes up 3 or 4 days per month is not economic for any one. This is why most software trainers are free lance, and it actually doesn't really make any difference if you hire them via the training agency or hire them directly.
The alternative is that IT training companies keep a number of on staff trainers who teach any just about any subject they are asked to. But the truth is about these generalists is that they don't know any subject in very much depth.
Now why should you trust me about this? I have been working in the IT development and training industry for 15 years and I have seen how this all fits together.
